The early days of planning this trip took hours of researching online and many dead end roads, but there where happy ending too and this is what I’ll list here.
I was specifically searching for vintage and quirky lodging, interesting roads off the main highways and fa-boo food.
So even though we enjoyed reading about wacky roadside attractions, I am not including links to all the websites dedicated to buildings shaped like animals and the biggest this, and the museum of that.
Here are simply the most helpful, fun and easiest to navigate websites and blogs I’ve found. enjoy!

Trip Advisor
Beyond reviews of hotels, the forums where invaluable. There are forums for every state and many towns. I posted in each state except Hawaii and Alaska “looking for neon motels and quirky lodging” and found hundreds of fun responses. People really willing to share about their neck of the woods.

Unusual Hotels of The World
This site while being a little Flash heavy with way too many categories has a ton of listing from tree houses to Dog Bark Park where you stay in a giant Beagle, yah!

The Lope
A fantastic photo filled blog following the adventures of a Jackalope as he travels Route 66 finding friends, beautiful old architecture, kitschy mini golf and more. The Lope is a true inspiration for just the kind of traveling I wanna do.
